I am based in the UK, have been kayak fishing since 2003. Joined Hobie in 2012 and fished the Hobie Fishing Worlds 2 and 3. Prior to these my international tournament experience was fishing the Jacksonville Classic in 2010. The Hobie Fishing Worlds gave me the bug for kayak fishing tournaments, competing in Sweden, France, Holland, China, Australia, USA and most of the growing number of UK tournaments. I also fish a few boat tournaments when kayaks are not included on the roster, but always by kayak when they are, competing against the boats is interesting.
I fish out of a Hobie Pro Angler 14 360 for my tournament fishing, a Hobie Outback on the salt and a Hobie Lynx for fun on the rivers or where access is tricky, I do fish tournaments on the Hobie Lynx if its a back to basics tournament with lures supplied and no electronics are allowed, the Hobie Lynx is a lot of fun.
Favourite fish to target are, Bass on the sea, Zander during tournaments, Chub on our rivers.
Having run the Swanage Classic Kayak Saltwater Tournament for 6 years and being a marshal for the previous 4 years, I decided to call it a day. I had a years break then announced the Kayak Angler of the Year (KAOTY) Tournament Series, the first series in the UK. Due to COVID we had to cancel the first years events, finally launching in 2021. KAOTY was a Hobie Fishing Worlds Qualifying event for 2021 and 2022. For 2023 we have chosen to offer a Hobie Fishing Lynx as our Series Champions prize.
I would love to be able to fish one of the big BOS events in the USA somehow I'm going to do it. Just don't know how yet.
