HOBIE FISHING WORLDS 9 – DAY 1 SET-UP

Hobie Fishing Worlds 9

August 3rd, 2022

Cooler weather, grey clouds and light rain did not stop the day one set-up for the 9th Hobie Fishing World Championships.

Forty-two of the world’s finest kayak anglers will descend on Åmål, Sweden, August 9th -15th to battle it out in three days of the most competitive kayak fishing ever seen for the coveted title of Daiwa – Hobie Fishing World Champion.

Åmål which is situated in Västra Gotaland County in Sweden is a small, picturesque town has just under 10,000 residents and nestles on the shores of Lake Vanern. A compact and well-constructed harbor sits at the edge of the township and its narrow entrance leads out into the vast, open lake. The township has everything anglers require to have a safe and enjoyable time, on and off the water, during the 2018 world championship.

Each competitor will fish from an identically rigged and Hobie Factory supplied Hobie® 14′ Pro Angler kayaks. This year the boats will be rigged with the Lowrance Elite FS™ 7 with Active Imaging 3-in-1 fish finder which will allow an angler to navigate their surroundings, locate fish, find structure, and determine water temperature.

Speaking to the local fishing guide with many years guiding anglers on sportfishing tours around Lake Vanern, Andy van Assema has accumulated a broad knowledge of the vast reaches of this massive lake. Van Assema said, “Vanern is the third largest lake in Europe and is part of a unique archipelago with a length of almost two hundred kilometers. It also holds a vast variety of fish, including the required competition fish, the pike and perch. Having the Hobie’s fitted out with the Lowrance Elite FS™ 7 with Active Imaging will be key in finding fish at this time of year.”

Each fish finder will be mounted to the Hobie with a RAM fish finder mount that will provide adjustability and quick removal. The Hobie fish finder installation kit will power the Lowrance fish finder and includes a NOCQUA lithium battery and charger.

On the stern of the boat anglers will find a Power-Pole Micro Anchor and lightweight spike, which is a motorized anchoring system that will be a crucial tool to an angler’s success in this environment. The Power-Pole Micro Lithium Battery will be attached to the unit and will run the Micro Anchor for several days of fishing.

The cargo area of the Hobie kayak (right behind the angler) is large and will store plenty of gear, and each angler’s boat will have an H-Crate storage system mounted in this area, to organize their gear.
